Merged Metrics / Flagship architecture
Azure Prism is a governed operations engine that turns fragile infrastructure scripts into reusable, sequenced, validated, and auditable workflows across Azure and the software running on it.
What it is
The hard part is not writing one more PowerShell script. It is making that script safe to repeat: checking the current state, sequencing dependencies, handling failure, validating the result, and proving what changed.
Azure Prism provides that operational runtime. Teams describe an operation in JSON or YAML; the engine coordinates reusable Azure CLI, PowerShell, and software-specific actions on Windows agents—with guardrails and evidence around every run.
Why Prism exists
Terraform and Bicep are excellent for provisioning and desired-state infrastructure. They can invoke scripts, but ongoing procedures—replace a certificate, validate it, restart dependencies, and safely remove the old file—do not fit cleanly into a declarative resource lifecycle.
Prism turns those cumbersome procedures into governed operations instead of leaving them as copied scripts, manual runbooks, and one-off portal changes.
What the engine adds
The operating boundary
Keep Terraform and Bicep for declarative infrastructure. Use the Prism engine where operations require sequencing, scripts, runtime decisions, software-specific actions, and evidence.
Where it helps
Prism operationalizes the work between a deployed resource and a reliable service—the granular procedures normally buried in scripts, tickets, and tribal knowledge.
How engagements run
Decompose the manual procedure into state checks, actions, dependencies, and success criteria.
Engineer reusable adapters around Azure CLI, PowerShell, and software-specific commands.
Operationalize it with approvals, retries, validation, ownership, and durable run evidence.
